PURPOSE

To research and promote African indigenous ethical approach to environmental issues.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Our website discusses the current contextual issues affecting human society leading to the slow pace of its holistic growth. It focuses on ethics, morality, and the environment. Environmental issues which include global warming, pollution, depletion of natural resources, unreliable weather seasons, and depletion of the ozone layer are also witnessed elsewhere.

Some of the environmental issues are a result of the rapid growth of unhealthy human relationships with the rest of creation threatening the very existence of humanity. On this website, we aim to search for possible remedies from indigenous African perspectives without excluding non-Africans. The realization of Contextual Environmental Ethics (hereinafter CEE) will lead the human person to a full realization of his/her moral and ethical responsibilities toward the preservation of nature.

Furthermore, we describe ethics as a continuous effort to study our own moral beliefs and moral conduct concerning our environment. It is regarded as a practical science in which the objective study is to know which actions ought to be done and which ought to be avoided. The focus is on the theory of moral values, moral codes, or principles that call for human activities to relate well with their environment.

Morality is associated with moral theology and moral philosophy. Subsequently, morality is the study of good and bad human acts. It is associated with holistic human behaviours guided by the rules of the great interest in the interiority of the human character.
